Feeling Stretched Thin and Disconnected? How to Reconnect With Yourself Again

Relation Matters | JUN 3

Feeling overwhelmed, stretched thin, or disconnected from yourself? Learn simple ways to slow down, regulate your nervous system, and reconnect with yourself again.

There are times when life feels like too much.

Too many responsibilities.
Too many emotions.
Too many demands.

And slowly, you may start to feel a bit disconnected from yourself.

Not fully present.
Not quite grounded.
Not like yourself.

If this feels familiar, you’re not alone.

From a nervous system perspective, this often happens when we’ve been in prolonged stress or overwhelm. The system begins to conserve energy - leading to burnout, numbness, or emotional reactivity.

Nothing is wrong with you. Your system is trying to protect you.

Gentle ways to begin reconnecting

You don’t need to do everything.

Start small:

  • Pause between tasks

  • Take a slow breath before responding

  • Step outside for a few minutes

  • Ask: “What do I need right now?”

  • Let yourself slow down without guilt

Reconnection doesn’t happen all at once - it happens in small moments of return to yourself.

If you’ve been feeling stretched thin, you don’t have to push through it alone.

At Relation Matters, I support women in reconnecting with themselves through nervous system–informed, relational counselling.
